It is pretty awesome that Final Fantasy XIV is available in both PC and Playstation. Now, players have options which platform to use in order to play this awesome MMORPG. But something’s missing. How about in Xbox? Why is Final Fantasy not available in Microsoft’s gaming console? Let’s find out:

Final Fantasy XIV Gil: From MS

IGN interviewed the head of for Xbox Phil Spencer, quoting:

“It’s business. As I’ve grow in this role, and I’ve tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing – and you see us doing less of it now – [I’ve found] it’s not something I’m a huge fan of. Different kind of deals happen, and I know that’s part of this business, and maybe it’ll be my failing in the end, but it’s not something I specifically embrace with any deal that’s out there, whether it’s something else. It’s just not something I can explicitly talk to.”

This might separate Sony from Microsoft in terms of the console wars

Final Fantasy XIV Gil: From Players

Many speculated in Reddit about why Microsoft didn’t get FFXIV in Xbox. There were some that really made sense and here are some:

Dorasucks said:

“Ugh… FFXI is a nightmare on 360. Basically, for the people who do not know, not only does it take up an insane amount of space, but if you turn the game off without logging out, you would not be able to play ffxi again until you completely reformatted your hard drive. Now this was “fixed” when you could choose to run games from the hard drive instead of the disc. However, if you were like me, you only had a 20 gb hard drive and that was not enough to both do the mandatory install and the run from hard drive install… Needless to say, I re formatted my hard drives several times for that reason.”

Ciserus said:

“In a way I can see how MS might have an interest in keeping MMOs off their platform. When I played FFXI, it was pretty much all that I played. That’s not good for a console maker unless they’re getting a cut of the monthly fees.”

Xbox

It is either a platform limitation or the bigger factor of them all, business. Like what the Xbox head said, this is all strategic. It just a sad news for Final Fantasy fans that own Xbox. Unless they have a good PC, they won’t be able to play the game. It is also sad news for PC and Playstation FFXIV players because this means that we cannot play with people who love Final Fantasy but only have Xbox. It would’ve added a significant amount of players to play with. Maybe soon they will change their mind. Fingers crossed.

A Community Like No Other

An MMORPG’s community is as important as any aspect of the game in terms of making a player stay playing. If an MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV has an awful community as if it is compared to a game having a bad gameplay, more likely players will quit. For me, it is a...
