Turning FFXIV Account holders to stone

Final Fantasy 14 account holders will need to be wary of three major mechanics in the fight with Melusine. The first of which is the Cursed Voice debuff. When cast, this apply a debuff on three members of the party, specifically, a tank, a healer and a DPS. They can be identified by a triangle marker on their heads.

While the debuff does not do anything harmful to its target, it has a nasty effect when it fades away. Once the debuff’s timer runs out, the affected character will fire a petrifying attack turning to stone everything, except the boss, in a cone in front of it. Petrified units, regardless if it’s a player or enemy, can be killed with any one attack. Additionally, petrified units will get a buff that increases their damage. As such, it is best to avoid petrifying anything except a Renaud as will be discussed below.

Shrieks on your FFXIV Account

Similar to Cursed Voice, Cursed Shriek is another debuff Melusine places on a healer or DPS. Like the other skill it will petrify targets as well as give a damage increasing buff on enemies. The main difference however is that the shriek affects all targets that has a line of sight to the player with the debuff. Final Fantasy XIV account holders will know which characters have the debuff by the circle mark above their heads.

Walking pillars on your FFXIV Account

The only way to avoid the effects of Cursed Shriek is to hide behind a pillar. The area however has no such structure. It does however have Renaud adds that are summoned periodically. These can be turned to stone using Cursed Voice. Once turned into a statue, they can be used to break LoS with the player with the Cursed Shriek debuff. Note that a maximum of four Renaud adds can be in the area at a time. Additionally, they can one-hit KO characters who come into their melee range.

Crystal Tower and Hildibrand Overview

Crystal Tower was the very first raid-like instance in Final Fantasy XIV. Coil of Bahamut was not really raid-like for me way back because it was just like a dungeon but double the number of people inside. Honestly, it was just like the Primal fights but of course,...
