In our last guide we went over the details of racing your Chocobo. In today’s guide w will go over how to raise your Chocobo. We will teach Final Fantasy XIV account holders  which activities help make it stronger. We will also cover related stats and what to do when your Chocobo is no longer in shape to race.

Raising FFXIV Account holder’s Chocobos

The easiest way for many FFXIV account holders to improve their racing Chocobo is by simply participating in races. The more races you enter and finish the more experience your Chocobo gets, especially if they finish it with a good position. Through this method the Chocobo will gain attribute increases and sometimes new abilities. Its rank will also increase. Note that as a Chocobo’s rank goes up, the more races it can participate in. Lastly, once your Chocobo reaches rank 40 it can be retired and used for Covering which we will cover in a separate guide.

How FFXIV Account holders can train Chocobos

Aside from racing, your Chocobo’s attributes can be improved through training. The latter is quite simple however. Final Fantasy 14 account holders simply need to feed their Chocobo with the right feed to develop a specific attribute. Feeds can be bought at the Chocobo Square from the Tack & Feed Trainer NPC (x6, y4). Feeds can also be crafted.

Each Chocobo has five attributes. The first two, Maximum Speed and Acceleration, are self-explanatory. Endurance however refers to how long your Chocobo can run before getting tired. Meanwhile, Stamina is how quick the similarly named bar gets drained. Lastly, Cunning affects how much your Chocobo slows down as it navigates the track.

Quick note about abilities for FFXIV Account holders

Chocobos have two types of abilities and can have one of each at any given time. These two types are acquired abilities and hereditary abilities. The former can be gained through going up in rank or from training manuals. They can also be unlearned bringing a Bottle of Lethe Water and talking with the Race Chocobo Trainer NPC. Hereditary abilities on the other hand can only be obtained through Covering.  Some abilities are passive and will always give an effect. Others are activated and need to be manually used. Note that these kinds of abilities can only be used once per race.
