Getting Started Late Into the Life of FFXIV

Final Fantasy XIV has been out for quite a while with an expansion already released, but that does not mean that every player in the world played the game already. While FFXIV is a fantastic game, it’s not exactly the most noob-friendly game in the world and it’s never easy getting started for the first time.

In fact, FFXIV can be daunting to newbies and most people don’t even have an idea on how the core mechanics actually work. With more than 10 years of World of Warcraft and other similar games, people may find FFXIV to run a little bit differently than the rest. Getting started in FFXIV is an impossibility to many.

Getting Started: What Does a Noob Need to Know?

For this article, let us focus on how to get started for those interested players who do not have an idea about Final Fantasy XIV and expansions. Note, FFXIV is not free to play and it is not as easy as “one, two, three” to play the game. There are more to know than registering and logging in the game. Let us see what information that a player needs to know to play the Final Fantasy XIV.

FFXIV Gil

One must purchase the base game first which is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. We can assume that an interested player may want to try the game first before buying the latter part of the updated game which is the expansion. He can play the major first parts of the game by buying Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The base game normally has a free 30 days subscription so no worrying about needing to subscribe to try the game. A new player must search for a package for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn that comes with the free one month subscription.

Getting Started: Heavensward

The new expansion is called Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. This one is not really needed by a new player to test out the game. I would suggest to buy this expansion only if he decided to stick to the game. There is a package wherein Heavensward is bundled with A Realm Reborn. Just take a look if it will be cheaper compared to buying them separately. Buying Heavensward gives access to Au Ra race which is not accessible with A Realm Reborn alone (Au Ra should be free to all /sad).

The game is cross platform as well. PC and PS players play together. It is suggested to buy keyboard and/or mouse if going to play in the console for those gil trade instance and other interactions with other players.

That would be all for those interested players who want to try out the game. Try Final Fantasy XIV now!
