The Sylphs or also known as Silfs, are a very helpful breed of summons that has appeared in various installments of the series. Summoned monsters are magical creatures with unique powers that can be summoned in battle. They have offensive, curative or supportive effects. The Sylph’s attack, Whispering Wind, absorbs HP from the enemy and gives it to the party. Silfs appear to be green fairies that resemble wood nymphs and look as if they blend well with the trees, leaves, and vegetation of the forest.

Sylphs are widely known as one of the beast races of Final Fantasy XIV. They are known to have the best relationship with the city-states.

They nest in Moonspore Grove. The pathways to the Grove are surrounded with many Sylphs that can be engaged in combat. Their homes are usually seen glowing from tree trunks and are easy to spot. Goldleaf Dais can also be found among them, protected by the Sylphs.

However, the invasion of the Garleans in the Twelvesewood and the following tragic Calamity has caused Sylphs to summon Ramuh, the lightning-aspected primal, for help. The Sylphs have now been ‘touched’, changing their green complexion into a purple hue and have affected their overall personality rendering them fiercely defensive of their territory and only daring to leave their boundaries to bring back the untouched Sylphs into their fold. The untouched sylphs have since then fled to a village called Little Solace, with the support of Gridania.

Sylphs may look very feminine but they are actually dual-gendered. Their names reflect their gender. All male Sylph’s names end in with “xio” while all female Sylph names end in “xia.”
