For a year or two of Final Fantasy XIV, there have been only two tanks available in the game. They were the Paladin and Warrior. Players had only two choices to pick from and honestly it was really sad. Wait, there’s more! Warriors were considered unconventional tanks because Paladins were THE conventional tanks. Not to mention that Paladins had more (active) defensive cooldowns than the combo-reliant Warriors thus making Paladins (almost) a requirement as main tank.
I know that World of Warcraft is older than Final Fantasy XIV but the discrepancy in number of tank classes in both games is disturbing. Yes, I am saying there should be more tanks in Final Fantasy XIV.
Final Fantasy XIV Gil: New Addition
Good thing time flew really fast and new patch came, Final Fantasy XIV added another tank in the game, the Dark Knight. The hype was real since it was a new class, sounds and looks like Batman and most importantly, one new tank class. I am a healer (White Mage) in the game and to tell you honestly, I got sick and tired of only healing two types of tank. There was a moment that I only healed Paladins for a week! It also saddened me because I really wanted players to tank as Warriors because they had more damage and so I can gauge my healing skill regardless of what tank I was healing. Oh and yeah, my second preferred role is to tank. So if I was not healing, I go tank. It sucked to only choose between Paladin and Warrior. So yeah, welcome Dark Knight!
Final Fantasy XIV Gil: Looking Forward
As there is now a 3rd option for tanking, it really excites me more to do dungeons and raids. I always look forward to heal a cooler (and newer) tank because it is more satisfying to me for some reason.
Let us take a look at the Dark Knight on my next article.
